City Park Swimming Pool by eudora

City Park Swimming Pool

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Only there is no swimming pool. The pool that once was here in City Park was for white people only. During the Civil Rights era, city powers chose to close it rather than desegregate it. Eventually it was filled in and landscaped. There are now a few public pools in Baton Rouge open to everyone.

Some pretty places have an ugly history....

Shot with Pentax K1000, Ektar100 color print film, processed with Nik Silver Efex.
terrible history, I thought it was an ironic heading

Lovely color tones and POV, Diane. The story is sad .. to go so far and remove the pool instead of desegregate.

Petty and ridiculous reasons for completely closing a pool. But their narrow-mindedness did not prevail. So that ends the story on a positive note.

How sad of a story that is. This is a great shot though.
