Golly I had no idea this one was so close to the same time of year as Katrina! I hate they had to go through it again! a great memorial for both tragedies!
I'll never forget that Sunday morning when we saw Katrina's path and increasing intensity in the Gulf. Knew immediately that it would be bad. We had both been planners in St Tammany, it was always a fear that a storm would come up through Lake Pontchartrain. The dread of seeing it was awful, even as we sat safe in Atlanta.
@margonaut In the aftermath of Katrina, I felt like I was standing at the edge of hell, seeing all the suffering in New Orleans and Mississippi while all we had were some branches down and a power outage. Even though we had no direct loss or damage, Katrina was one of the most significant experiences of my life. It showed the best and worst sides of humanity, but most people were incredibly caring, doing what they could to help others in greater need.
