Breakfast Drama

The girls get one tablespoon of mixed milk thistle and hemp seeds every day. They are supposed to get two tablespoons, but they never finish two. We split their pellets, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit and water amongst seven bowls placed all over the aviary. That way they can go for a wander and find something to eat. When I cut fresh branches for them, I purposely put the branches, so they have to work at getting to the bowls and their food. It keeps their brains active and gives them something to do during the day.

We usually put the seeds in one small bowl. Yoda has to go out first, or she won't get in her carrier. She immediately goes to the seeds and starts chowing down. I go in to get Giorgos. When I get her to the aviary, I put her on her perch by a food bowl. She immediately heads to the seed bowl and "kicks" Yoda off! There is no fight, Yoda just flies away. So this week, I have started putting half of the seeds in one of the other bowls. When Giorgos pushes Yoda out, I put Yoda on the other bowl. In two SECONDS, Giorgos was over at the new bowl chasing Yoda away. Yoda didn't care, she just went over to the original seed bowl. To her, seeds are seeds. To Giorgos, obviously, the grass is greener on the other side!

In this image, Yoda had finished her seeds, okra, pear, carrot, and had some scritches. For some reason, she always saves her pellets for mid morning.
Lovely portrait. Birds are fascinating. Do they talk?

@sarasotabThank you! ALL the time! We rescued Giorgos 3 years ago, and Yoda almost a year ago. They each came with some words and since being together have taught each other the ones they each had previously. What has made us laugh is how they have changed some of the words of the other bird into a new word...only to have the original bird adopt the new word.

Sounds like quite a process in the morning for you but worth it to have these beautiful birds!

@maggiemae Thank you! And you are so right. It's a bit like children; all chaotic here and there with lots of wonderfulness mixed in the middle and around the edges.

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments and FAVs! I enjoy writing about my daily life, which obviously revolves a great deal around our zoo. It keeps me busy and I am never bored or lacking a photographic subject!

@evalieutionspics A "real" zoo or a home menagerie?

Thank you @gardenfolk! It's a home menagerie that we call a zoo. If the boys were still at home it might actually qualify. 😊 We have three dogs, two parrots, a cat, and a turtle..
