This is a typical scene when hiking in the winter in Colorado! This side the mountain doesn't see much sun, hence the snow pack and icy trails. It was a great day to get out and hike with the family, since we all had the day off together!
Thank you all for your amazing comments, views, favs and support for yesterday's shot! I am just blown away at the response!!
Like these scenes so much. Remembers me on my students exchange period in Munich, Germany. I spent many hours in walking throught the Alps in spring. Always alone, not that safe, but so extreme nice! Even climbed the highest German Mountain Zugspitze along, last past of the track while it snowed. Fortunately overtook another guy, so we could walk together the steepest part. Last summer holiday we drove by with my family and ofcourse I had to tell the story and my heart was overflowing with melancholy...
You have a lovely part of the world Wendy and so well photographed. Wife and I went to Silverado 14 odd years back and must do again with our boys. Carry on the good work, great to see some vivid colours this time of year.
@yoshi Thank you Yousef!! We started out in the sun and it was about 30 degrees F. As we entered the shade, you could feel a sharp decrease in temp.!! @klemieux Thank you so much Ken!! Now that you mention it, that's exactly what I needed on this hike!! I have some good boots, but with my camera gear, I felt pretty unsteady and a bit more cautious! I did't want to go down with my camera! I need those Microspikes!!
@djepie Thank you so much Jaap for sharing this with me! I would absolutely love to hike around the Alps someday and Zugspitze is on my dream list!! You are so fortunate to have had that opportunity! My husband has family in Germany, so I sure hope to travel there someday soon!!
@veekay lol, Vicki! Fortunately, most of these places are close to home! It's amazing what I am finding in my "own backyard" now that I have been taking pictures everyday! Thank you so much for your comments!
@webfoot Hey Paul! I am using Photomatix for my HDR and use 3 shots from 3 different exposures. Usually I to a +2, 0, -2, but it just depends on the lighting! Thanks for asking!
how cold is it on these hikes?

Also, do you take several from the same spot, or are you tonemapping from one shot?
Inquiring minds want to know.
