I took this shot yesterday afternoon. The mountain on the left is Pikes Peak. This mountain shows up several times in my project. The fire is still 0% contained, but I know there are several firefighters risking their lives to get this under control. It's just difficult to see our beautiful landscape covered with smoke and fire. So far there have been no structures effected and we are praying this continues to be the case.
Thank you all for your support and comments and certainly your prayers!

I've been wondering about you and your safety. This is the first year in five years we didn't comt to Co Springs on vacation. We always stay at Garden of the Gods campground and visit Manitou Springs. One of our favorite hikes is Waldo Canyon. Is that where the fire started? Do they know what caused it? I am so sad for you and everyone there. Thanks for documenting the fire.
@otprofsp Thank you so much Susan! It does appear to have started in Waldo Canyon. It is one of my favorite hiking areas too and it just breaks my heart. The Garden of the Gods has been closed for the past few days and it just seems unreal. It is definitely not a great time for tourists right now. Ute Pass (HWY 24) is also closed from Manitou Springs to Woodland Park. I have lived here since 1981 and have never experienced anything like this. As of now they do not know what caused the fire (it's too dangerous to get to the area of origin), but we did not have any lightening at the start of the fire... in fact it was a gorgeous Colorado day. Very suspicious for sure. @rhoing Thank you soooo much Thom! This just brings tears to my eyes and I sure appreciate your prayers! @zuzana Thank you Zuzana! @lasco Thank you Laurie! @agavegirl13 Thank you Karuna! It's so great to hear Ft. Collins finally got some rain!! I love that area too! @shagbark Thank you Larry! @michellina Thank you Mihaela! @michelleyoung Thank you Michelle! @bdb3471 Thank you Brian! @carwyn3 Thank you Mervyn! @glb484 Thank you Gina!
Oh My Wendy!! Your wonderful landscape is on fire!!! I will start praying i havent been around in a few Days but my sister and brother in law live in Saratoga Springs Utah ( near Salt Lake) and they had the fires right over the mountains behind thier new house!! Thank God everyone is ok. so far..Prayers for your family and the firefighters! AWESOME PIC AND A FAV FOR SURE!!!
@ellimae Thank you so much Ellen for your comments! I sure hope and am praying that the fires your sister is experiencing stay far away! It is definitely a nerve racking situation!
@exposure4u Just wanted to let you know i just saw my brother in law post a picture on facebook of his flowers on his front lawn and there was no fire in site,,They got it out just in time...Thank you for your concern.
I missed this yesterday. Hope they get things under control soon. Wildfires/bush fires are terrifying things. Australians know all too well what they can do. Hope your place is not at risk. Be Careful!
I am so sorry this continues. I know God has a plan in this but I know it is also hard for you and your family to see this happening around you. I continue to pray for rain and the firefighters to get it under control. As far as the photograph goes it is beautiful. It looks like you can see the suns rays shinning down from heaven on the left and the fire on the right. A fav for me.
my thoughts go out to you and your community Wendy - thought of you immediately I heard the news. I hope you stay safe and the fires are controlled soon. A very poignant shot
I came to your sight specifically to look for photos of the fire, Colorado Springs was once my hometown and two of my children were born there. The news photos of the fire are just devastating to me. I have noticed that you haven't posted since June 25. I hope you are not close or affected completely by this fire. Hope to see some more beautiful shots of your beautiful city soon!
Having survived a horrible fire I know how sad it is for you. My brother lives in Colorado and has been giving us updates. This is a beautiful photo considering the topic.
