This is an amazing spot I have been wanting to photograph for some time now! I had researched how to locate this area over Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park through various sources, but really didn't know until I hiked around the lake. I arrived at about 4 pm on Wednesday and started up a trail to find this area. I started climbing boulders and my intuition told me to head back down near Bear Lake. As I made my way around the lake I saw what appeared to be a possible access point and headed up on an unmarked path. I continued up until I heard some voices and decided to transverse some boulders to get to an open area with a view I will never forget. As I straddled my tripod between boulders, I had to remind myself to stay calm and not worry about my fear of heights! As the sun set, there were about 5 other guys that came towing their tripods and cameras to photograph this spectacular view. Thank you to the conversations and meeting other fellow photographers in hopes of capturing that perfect shot!
@kiwichick Thank you Lesley! Yes, there was one guy, Brian, who followed me down. I stopped to let him pass, but he said he was a slow climber, but I really think he was being a little chivalrous, lol! I have been lucky to get some time off work to get some fall photos.
@exposure4u That's great to hear. I often wonder how you get to these places for sunrises, or leave after photographing a sunset, especially when you haven't ever been there before. You're one brave woman! I'm glad you have some time off too!
Spectacular shot of the wonderful Colorado fall colors. You certainly found a great spot to get this image - all your boulder climbing most certainly paid off! Fav - (You must have a super sense of direction to find your way back from these excursions - I'd be wanting to drop bread crumbs every 5 feet!)
