Ypres tower by fannyb

Ypres tower

photo 46
Busy day cutting grass...looked like a meadow!! and other stuff, went into Rye for a well deserved drink, this is Ypres Tower the 2nd oldest building in Rye, built in the 14th century and in the 16th century was the 7th busiest port BUT the sea receded and is now farmland!! to the right of the tower you can see the channel that now leads out to the sea, fishing boats now come up the channel into Rye.

Rye is a smashing little place. I love that coast. I am planning a photography trip to Dungeness some time this year, not far?

what a lovely tower, I'm a fan of that part of the coast too, though haven't been in too long...now the weather is getting better, I might get myself down there!

How wonderful - we think 300 years is old in the States LOL. The stones in the tower have such warmth - thanks for showing us!

Great shot of the tower, standing as you say, some way inland now. Nice little bit of history too!

@fannyb Thanks Fanny, you never know, we may descend on your B and B too! I love it round where you are. Hastings, Dungeness, Beachy Head etc.

I like your framing with the tree and lamp post. Good way to balance the solidity of the castle.
