Ottawa is the only world capital that has a working farm at its heart. Established in 1886 by the Canadian federal government, this farm has supported Canadian agriculture by undertaking critical scientific research as well as developing and demonstrating good farming practices.
Its 426 hectares are divided into three distinct groups: the central core of scientific and administrative buildings, the arboretum and ornamental gardens, and finally the working fields as pictured here.
As a charter bus driver, I will have the pleasure of being able to visit this farm every weekday over the next six weeks so will try to feature one aspect of this scenic spot each of those days.
BTW - the gulls follow the tractor looking for field mice, bugs or snakes that the tractor may have disturbed as it is plowing.
Great contrast of tractor & high rise buildings in the background. Sounds a very useful enterprise. London has nine city farms dotted around the city, all, different sizes. All have farm animals, vegetable growing, bees etc but I don't think any have proper what I call farm crops. Wonderful to have these green acres in the middle of a city.
What interesting information and what an interesting scene to see. A farm with high rise buildings in the background, quite fascinating really. You are an interesting person Wendy, mother, grandmother, farmer and a chartered bus driver - a lady of many talents I see!
