Pioneer Cemetery by farmreporter

Pioneer Cemetery

This cemetery lies high on a windswept hill overlooking a very minor cross-road. Most people would not even notice it as they zip down the gravel road.
There is no church here, no building, not even a fence around it. Yet, it is well maintained and cared for by someone.
Am I morbid to be so fascinated by these old pioneer graves?
An fascinating look at these old gravesites. A local family site?

It is definitely an old Scottish pioneer cemetery - the main surnames were McLeod and McKay. I think most graves were from one or two families.

I find them fascinating too. equally as fascinating is how they were planted in the middle of nowhere seemingly. maybe because of beliefs or fears???

There is nothing morbid about enjoying a graveyard Wendy. I find them such peaceful places to visit and often do. And I always pop in when I spot one on my travels if I can. I think this is lovely and would definitely spend some time here. Beautiful shot - fav :)

The positioning of the cemetery to oversee the land has to mean the first landowners are buried there!

I think they are fascinating too. They always seem so quiet and serene. The older stones are fascinating and many times tell you a lot about the families.
