Taking photos like this makes me realize just how much more I need to learn about photography, light, and how to capture the beauty that my eye sees.
This does not do justice to the way the tree actually glowed when I saw it.
I’ve always admired painters who could paint light into their art. Light is everything to photography, I think this is lovely and the sunlight on the leaves and the tree trunk is perfect.
There is some beautiful contrast between the light and shadow Wendy. Whether you captured the light as you saw it or not, it really is a lovely image :)

Thank you both for taking the time to comment. This is what I love about photography and 365 - we are all on the same journey to becoming better photographers and encourage each other along the way!
It's so difficult trying to capture the beauty of light on trees - I've spent hours trying! You've done a really good job with this one.
The highlights are a bit blown out, so I might have underexposed a bit more to keep some of the detail there, but it's still beautiful

Thanks, Annie. Your comment made me realize what I did wrong.
I think this is one shot where I should have taken the time to do 3 or 5 shots and merged them together in HDR. That would have made all the difference, I think!
I love the green of this photo. It was nice to get a reply so soon. If I am correct you live in the UK. Will be visiting my children in the UK in July. My grand daughter only speaks English. Ha ha English is my second language. Better learn fast now! Enjoy the rest of the afternoon.
@sdutoit
I'm not in the UK though I do love it there! I actually live in Canada - Eastern Ontario to be exact. (no where near Toronto though ... closer to Montreal)
I, too, have tried to capture light on trees and with less success than you have here! It is very frustrating, but I like the way the light dances on this tree Wendy. I have had a similar view to this all weekend - staying in a forest cabin with my dad!!
The lighting is love lovely...I've just been reading some Ansel Adams books and the whole concept of visualizing and actually rendering in the image what one has visualized....wish I could do that So understand just what you mean!
You've done a wonderful job capturing the beautiful light on these trees. So often when I'm taking photos the thought crosses my mind that there's no way I can actually capture in a photo the essence of what I'm experiencing . . . but I keep trying. :-)

I must read some of his books. I truly admire his work.
You and me both - I just keep trying, We will be just fine just as long as we don't give up!
