This poor baby almost landed on my head while I was out for a walk in our back 40 on a very hot and humid summer day.
It was so tiny, less than 2 inches from tip of its' beak to the very end of its non-existent tail. the poor thing made valiant attempts to fly but never got high enough to get out of the tall grass.
I hope that its' chirps were loud enough for mom to find him - otherwise he would not be able to feed himself.

Thank you all for your comments!
I actually uploaded a whole bunch of photos at the same time of this and did not want to overwhelm everyone's feed so I uploaded this (and a couple of others) as restricted.
I went back a couple of days later to make it public.
I am surprised - and delighted - that you all managed to find this.
Thank you!
