I have always loved Simon and Garfunkel. They are from my era (maybe I was just a little young in the 60s but I liked their music anyway). Their music touched my soul and made me think.
I have also heard the remake done by Disturbed but found it a tad dark, much preferring the original by Simon and Garfunkel.
There was a tribute to the Canadian military released that has touched both Hubby and me deeply. It uses the Sound of Silence remake by Disturbed (yes that is the name of the band).
It was that tribute that inspired me to do this shot and wonder what our world would be if there was no music.
So this shot is a two-fer ... for the Song Title challenge and for the 52 Week Challenge that says 'Music is part of the soul, so let it inspire you this week.'
I like the gritty look of this. Certainly the mood that is appropriate for the subject. I know there are many of us who want to thank all servicemen for their service. It was something that I thought about but chose not to do. It was something that my husband lived with the rest of his life.
@randystreat
Was your husband military?
Mine was - search and rescue pilot, fighter pilot, served in Israel with United Nations, and Afghanistan. He enjoyed much of his career but Afghanistan was tough on him.
@farmreporter As my husband used to say, he was US Air Force Quit (rather than retired). He did his 4 years back in the early 70's and enlisted because he had a low draft number. He served in Thailand (during the Viet Nam war), and also was based in Myrlte Beach SC and in England. Please thank your husband for his service. Most any serviceman who saw active duty in an active combat area is traumatized for the rest of this/her life. I can only imagine.
i've seen that version of 'disturbed' quite a while ago and i didn't like it as it projected a different perspective of the song. i don't like the younger generation butchering the songs of my youth. why can't they make their own decent music is beyond me.
my hat's off to your husband. my close relatives and a number of friends who are/were in the military and have seen actions in iraq and in kabul. and i've read numerous accounts of the aftermath of combat on the soldiers. i just wish our government do more for them.
your photo depicts the darkness of that newer version of the song. aces!
@farmreporter. Hey partner. We're both getting to this late... Sorry. How about a street scene (well, any scene with people in it) that only shows the lower part of their bodies (torso and legs)? I can come up with another challenge if this doesn't suit.
