Beginning of Ontario
The southern border between Ontario and Quebec in Canada was originally decided by going perpendicular to the Ottawa River on the west side of Ontario and going perpendicular to the St. Lawrence River on the south side of Ontario.
The historical societies of both Ontario and Quebec raised money to survey and place markers every mile at the junction of where these two lines intersect. I live within 2 miles of this point.
