Hanging out on a wire!

I have driven past these pigeons many times and thought that I should stop and take a picture. Today was that day. I love the simplicity of the silhouette of these birds. Best viewed on black!

I was noticing birds on the wires while I was driving on a divided highway a couple days ago. I noticed that the birds always congregated on the part of the wire above the median strip. I saw this in several places. Does anyone have an explanation?
