Taken along the Zig Zag path in Folkestone with an attempt to bracket. Well, bracketing was not very successful, I'd forgotten how clumsy I was at Photomerge, so the shot that was the best of a bad bunch is this - taken on Auto!! Despite the lack of skill of the camera operator, I liked the little figures coming and going. Don't you think that 'child trails' around that bend would have been something? Maybe another day ...
Whatever settings you chose you have clearly used the camera well. Fortunately the camera can't hide the fact that you have such a good eye for a composition. Fav
I like this very much - as you say it's got so many possibilities. I looked up "child trails" - would indeed be a good spot - and "bracketing". After reading about bracketing I wondered if there was another way you achieve the same result.without having to merge images. Would it work if you selected the bright area with a marquee tool, feathered the edges and then changed the exposure to what you wanted - inverted the selection and did the same to the dark area? Just a thought as I've used this a few times with blur/focus changes and it's been quite good. :)
@robz Thanks for your thoughts Rob, very valid suggestions. Main problem was I wasn't in RAW but jpeg for some unknown reason, prob because I'd been playing about with HDR. I took that many rubbish shots today I am ashamed ...
@brigette Am afraid it's not - taken in Auto mode and tweaked in Elements, possibly with a Silver Efex filter but I tried so many connotations I lost count. The merged shots were epic fails :(
@fbailey Thanks for your reply FB - I was interested to read what you said about the jpeg images. My camera only produces jpeg so would that mean I would not be able to use them for editing in Elements. Or was that what caused a problem with your camera - does it usually do the bracketing in camera? Sorry to be so dense!! :)
@robz Not dense at all. RAW images retain much more information about a shot than a jpeg and you can play around with exposure etc much more. Elements works on both but RAW is better. The bracketing isn't done in camera, it gives you a selection of images to choose from and you can abstract 'bits' from each if you're a patient person - I'm not! Hope this helps.
With all the post processing that can be done it is nice to see a shot that is well composed right out of the camera. Someone above said that your “mistake” can’t hide your eye for composition. That’s something that post processing can’t always make up for. Nice shot!
Fav. Great shot, great use of light. Well done on including the two persons coming out of the cave in silhouette and the other person coming into view on the other side of the picture.
@fbailey Thanks for your reply FB - it certainly did help explain things. And you have converted this into b&w - it looks quite different - I hadn't actually noticed the single person on the left hand track when it was in colour. I think I like this better - the contrast between inside and outside works well without being too overwhelming. :)
All sounding very technical - but whatever the possibilities and things you didn't manage to achieve - the result you did get is very good and to have the three people in the correct place was pretty good going too.
(Snap! Also posted an uphill through an archway shot)
