Sleeping (or possibly frozen) Dragonfly

I went outside to grab a clean shirt off the line this morning and just about stepped on this guy as I went through the door. I thought he must have been dead but when I went to pick him up he all of a sudden pulled his legs in. I guess he decided my veranda was a good place to spend the (cold) night. When I went out later to go to work he was gone so I figure he'd warmed up and was about his dragonfly business.
Wonderful detail!

I love dragonflies! They have such an ancient look about them. And this one looks a little intimidating, even if he is frozen.

Thanks guys. I love dragonflies too but normally they're flying around too fast for me to photograph. Couldn't pass up this opportunity to study a still one!

Great photo of a dragonfly I hope he's sleeping and not frozen though...

Thanks Jodie.

I'm pretty sure he was just sleeping Isaac as he'd disappeared about an hour later when the day had warmed up a bit. Thanks for the Fav :-)

Amazing photo. I have real trouble capturing insects (they never stay still).

Really good photo, so nice to see one so close up as they normally flitter all the time!

really like the composition of this image. and at first I was taken by the shadows but as I look at the image more, the shadows really help emphasize the insects features (especially the wing segments).

Great shot Lisa, (I'd like to see a face close up) - so I can tell where they are looking, this is so great look at that wing span and so delicate, and pretty. Maybe I will get a book and check out the face parts.
