Preserve your Memories

Was looking for my favourite photo of my Dad today, his birthday, and realised I had given it to Mum when he passed away nearly five years ago. It suddenly hit me how the only photos I'll have of him are the ones we have now.
TAKE PHOTOS OF THE ONES YOU LOVE!!
My sister Julie took this photo, I have altered the colour slightly (faded the colour around Dad) to say at least I did something to it rather than just photograph a photograph (which is actually trickier than it sounds).
Really just wanted to pass the message on - isn't that why we started taking photographs? :)

"Time it was and what a time it was, I have a photograph.... preserve your memories, they're all that's left you".
(From Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel)
What a lovely, heart-warming photo. I love that song too. Thank you for the reminder. I need to take photos of people more often than scenery and odd things I notice when I'm out and about with my camera.

You're so right about it! Everytime I look at old shots I realize how nice it is to be able to live those moments again

Great tribute to your Dad, and a wonderful song to remind us about why it is that we are all here on 365. Sharing... caring.... preserving.... enjoying.

Phil, I saw this the other day and forgot to comment. It is so beautiful it takes my breath away. We do live our memories through our photos of those we love. Wonderful photo.

So beautifully done Phil and your words are so true! This Christmas has been very emotional for us, as my Dad has just been diagnosed with Parkinson's. Already I have noticed how hard it is to capture his face the way we've known it. His cheeky grin is turning more into an expressionless mask every day now and it is painful to see the proof on the photo. I love how you captured and reworked this photo! A precious memory, I'm sure!

I say Amen to that........have yet to learn how to process a photo like that. What software did you use, btw?

@bmnorthernlight Thank you - I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. Take photos and enjoy them! My Dad had a huge stroke which wiped out his left side completely, he battled to overcome it and never lost the twinkle in his eye, but I do treasure the 'before' shots like this one. :)

@tooki Thank you! I used Picasa and chose the focal b&w option .. I think Picnik has the same but Picasa is loaded up and quicker for me. Still so much to learn but thank goodness for the holidays when I can play!! :)
