Foss Bridge, York by fishers

Foss Bridge, York

I had been window shopping Piccadilly, (furniture shop, don't tell Ian!) , and spotted Foss Bridge looking rather nice in the sunshine.

Foss Bridge, on the site of a medieval bridge links Fossgate and Walmgate across the River Foss and is a stone baluster bridge built by Peter Atkinson in 1812. A chapel dedicated to St William is known to have stood on the medieval bridge.

The bridge itself is still cobbled and the Merchant Adventurers Hall, ( featured by Lucy on the 9th August) can be entered from Fossgate.

I like this shot Katharine, especially the reflection of the building obscured by the bridge itself. I find the person stood on the bridge a bit of a distraction though.

@pyrrhula Thank you for the fav. The bridge is in one of the quieter areas of York and tends to be something I cross without thinking I'm more worried about tripping on the cobble stones on its surface. Katharine

@malc Thanks Malc. One of our bits of Georgian splendour. Katharine

@gamelee I see what you mean Lee. I'm not always aware of what is happening at the edges of my pictures! I am always being told to look properly and be patient! Katharine

@cathieg @purplehaze12 @cathrinemitch Thank you. I was surprised the reflections came out as well as they did as a family of ducks had recently passed by. Katharine

@witchyjacq Thanks for the fav. It is a pretty place. I would have liked to take a view from the bridge but I need a step to see over the sides. I don't think it gives that impression from my picture. Katharine
