Part of the Illuminating York festival at the end of last week was a lighting competition in the National Railway Museum, with several teams competing to create effective lighting displays on different locomotives.
Here we see a selection of parts of Great Western ‘King’ class number 6000 King George V. This locomotive was built in 1927, and visited the United States in August 1927 to feature in the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad's centenary celebrations. During the celebrations it was presented with a bell and a plaque, and these are carried to this day.
It is no longer in working order, and has in recent years spent time at Swindon 'Steam' Railway Museum before being moved to the National Railway Museum at York.
Thank you Tony and thank you for the fav! Most of the choices of pieces to photograph were dictated by the lighting effects created by the competitors.
Thank you Graham, and thank you for the fav! It was a great opportunity to get some more unusual shots of the steam locomotives in the museum.
