On Guard!

According to popular myth, the carved stone figures on top of Bootham Bar, are supposed to protect the city from marauding Scotsmen. In the middle ages a Scotsman had to knock on the door of the bar and seek permission from the Lord Mayor to enter the city.

The modern equivalent on the left, a CCTV camera is supposed to protect the city from marauding motorists!
