How many uses are there for an abandoned railway viaduct? Well in Paris they converted this one into a long stretch of art and craft shops, completely rejuvenating the area in 1993. It had been derelict since 1969, and the finished result is rather pleasing on the eye! - Lucy
Super perspective, love the repetition of the arches. Nice history too. Makes me think of the Museum d'Orsay which I think was an old railway station until Giscard d'Estaing decided to convert it. We visited in 1989!
Wow, this is fabulous. so from 1969 to 1993 is was just a viaduct? it took a lot of years for come up with this marvelous idea and I guess also the financing. would love see this in person and stroll along the arches, looking at the fabulous interior of the places. fav.
Nicely composed shot Lucy... I'm just amazed that there were so few visitors present at 11.32am - unless you had forgotten to put the clock on your camera forward, which would certainly explain it, especially in Paris!
@ivan thank you Ivan. Yes, I've not actually been to the Orsay yet, I'm waiting for a rainy day! It's an impressive building though, and another example of a good conversion - Lucy
@bruni thank you Bruni. Yes, it was just a derelict viaduct before. Some of the railway line was still used, but this section was abandoned. The shops look interesting, but they were all closed because I went on a Sunday! -Lucy
@vignouse haha, in actual fact I did forget to change the time, but I think it was quiet more because I took this on Sunday so none of the shops were open. And this isn't a popular part of Paris for tourists, it's more residential -Lucy
