Slumbering Steam Locomotive by fishers

Slumbering Steam Locomotive

Taking a well earned rest at the end of it's almost 200 mile run along the East Coast main line from London to York, 'Sir Nigel Gresley' enjoys the attention of dozens of photographers and railway enthusiasts at York railway station before it moves off to the railway museum for coal and water.

This locomotive is one of six survivors of this type, the most famous being 'Mallard' which holds the world speed record for a steam locomotive.

'Sir Nigel Gresley' has appeared before in this project, last summer when the 'great gathering' took place to commemorate the 75th anniversary of 'Mallard' setting the world record and huge numbers of people visited the railway museum to see them - http://365project.org/fishers/365/2013-07-13, http://365project.org/fishers/365/2013-07-03

Well what a treat to see this - even better if one could have had a ride on it. I can almost smell that special odour these old engines had when under steam. Nice one, Ian.

@vignouse

Thank you Richard - we are fortunate that there are regular steam trains in York in the summer (usually 5 or 6 each week in the school holidays) as they make such good subjects to photograph - and the sound and smell add to the event, as you said!
