View from La Tour Montparnasse

If you don't want to queue for 3-4 hours for the Eiffel Tower, the Tour Montparnasse makes a good substitute. You ascend in the fastest elevator in Europe (38 seconds to go 56 floors) and walk up to the 59th to get to the viewing area. It's nice because you can actually see the Eiffel Tower from it, and you get a 360 degree view.

Here you can see the gold dome of Les Invalides on the left, in the distance. On the right, the straight horizontal line of buildings is part of the Louvre. The Louvre itself is actually so extensive I couldn't fit it in the frame of my camera! - Lucy
Super Parisian cityscape. And what a good tip, to save all that queuing! Fav!

It really gives an idea of the scale of things. I can't believe that people would queue when this view is a quicker alternative. Great shot.

@ivan Thanks Ivan! It's also more central to Paris than the Eiffel Tower, which is rather west, so you get a different view - Lucy

@pyrrhula I was a bit worried about the height but you feel quite safe at the top because there's perspex all the way round, so you can't fall! But thanks Ferry - Lucy

@dide Thanks Dianne. Yes, the Eiffel Tower is an experience, but so is this! You can even buy a bottle of champagne at the top, haha! I enjoyed it so much I sat and had a coffee in the cafe, soaking in the view - Lucy

@bobhuegel Thanks Bob! I was finishing work a bit early on Friday and thought I'd better not delay in going, the conditions were just too good! And it wasn't as hot as Saturday and Sunday so I didn't have to worry about heat haze or pollution, there was a good breeze - Lucy

@vignouse Thanks Richard. I ran out of work quickly when I realised Sat and Sun were going to be hot, and figured it was better to go up on a day with a breeze to blow the pollution away! - Lucy

@stevepam Thanks Steve and Pam. How wonderful to get married here! I see people all the time having wedding photos (some are just photo shoots I guess!) and I think there are such good backdrops for wedding pics in Paris! - Lucy
