Katharine and I are quite amazed by the amount of public art in Sheffield, and this is one of the items we recently discovered.
These giraffes are to be found in the Winter Gardens, in the heart of the city, and are one of several pieces of art in there.
The Winter Gardens themselves are one of the largest temperate glasshouses to be built in the UK during the last hundred years, and the largest urban glasshouse anywhere in Europe. It is home to more than 2,000 plants from all around the world. It was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 22 May 2003.
It also seems to be a centre for various group activities - there was a group learning the hoola hoop while we were there!
Thank you Margaret - I thought these were great fun!
