Tucked between rather questionable modern structures and building works in London Victoria is Westminster Cathedral (opened in 1903), set back a little from the main road.
John Betjeman called it "a masterpiece in striped brick and stone in an intricate pattern of bonding, the domes being all-brick in order to prove that the good craftsman has no need of steel or concrete."
If you look at its surroundings, it seems that there's a lack of good craftsmen now! - Lucy
Great description and beautiful shot of the Cathedral! I am learning a lot by following your family's project. Really enjoying the photos and descriptions!
Another place that I never knew existed Lucy. Not easy to photograph this with the tall tower - you did well to get everything in. The way this is constructed is faxcinating.
@kt8ird Thanks Kate, we're glad you find it interesting! We like seeing places other people post too. We're managing to see quite a lot of the world without leaving our front room! - Lucy
@vignouse Thank you Richard. I didn't know it was there either until I'd nearly walked past it! Everything is so tall in London you can hardly see these things sometimes, whereas in York nothing is allowed to be taller than the Minster, so it sticks out a mile! -Lucy
