I've been with my mum for a few days, following her latest eye treatment, so while there I spent a little time exploring the wildlife in her garden.
I presume this spider is a Garden Spider (Araneus diadematus), though I'm far from being an expert. Perhaps one of you can correct me if I'm wrong. There were a number of these spiders in different parts of the garden, and this one was good enough to pose for me before it realised I was close by and went into hiding.
I hadn't noticed until I was sorting out this shot to post today, but it's web looks rather ragged.
Finally an apology to those of you who have commented on my shots recently - my absence in an internet free zone means I haven't had chance to respond to your comments. I will be catching up this afternoon.
Thank you Julia - I'm not a great fan of spiders either!
