Another day out walking in the Chilterns while Louise was working. Today I went by bus to Stokenchurch, and walked south eventually arriving at Hambledon Mill to catch another bus back towards where Louise lives.
The walk passed through several delightful villages. My main objective was to visit the village of Turville. I've been there once before and loved the place, so I was pleased to visit again, and take lots of photos. There are lots of timber framed houses and a beautiful church.
You may not have heard of Turville, but many of you, particularly those of you in the UK, will have seen it on TV or at the cinema, since it's often used as a film location. It was used in the Vicar of Dibley, the New Avengers, Midsomer Murders, Goodnight Mr Tom, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and many others. The earliest film partly shot here that I've come across is Went the Day Well? a wartime film about a fictional takeover of an English village by German soldiers, and how the locals defeated them, and made around 1942.
My walk continued southwards through Hambledon, where by coincidence there were film crews shooting scenes for a two part BBC thriller to be shown next year. Sadly this restricted opportunities for photos of the village, although I did get a few shots of the old cars they were using.
Great shot. I don't know this village but will have to get Dave to arrange a visit in the area. I took my class to visit Harwich once and they were thrilled to discover that they were filming Hi-de-hi
Thank you Judith - I think living there must be a bit like living in a goldfish bowl, because it's fame as a film location means there are a lot of visitors too!
Thank you Ivan and thank you for the fav! I suppose it's typical English village qualities are why it is so popular for use in films.
