This is a shot with the Minster in the background peeping over the Bootham Bar part of the city walls on the right of the shot. The city walls date from medieval times, though there are parts of Roman walls remaining in some parts of the city. Bootham Bar is one of four 'gates' that let people in and out of the city. The wall to the left in the shot is another part of these walls that leads behind the art gallery (out of the shot).
When I walk from home into town, this part of the walls and the minster behind are the first things I see. It's amazing to live somewhere with so much history :) - Lucy
