I found this happy guy in the church at Appleby. I love the red sandstone that lends a warmth to the carving.
There were a number of faces carved above each arch in the nave of the church. Each was highly individual and managed to convey character.
This was my favourite and reminded me of Errol Flynn playing a loveable rogue. I thought he had a piratical look to him, the sort who would take your valuables with a smile and a joke, and see you safley to your destination!
