While Katharine and Lucy were exploring in Leeds, I was some 10 miles to the north in Otley in lower Wharfedale.
Otley has clearly become a cycling town. In 2014 the Tour de France passed through. This year a stage of the Tour de Yorkshire started here. A local celebrity is Olympic Silver Medallist, World and National Champion Lizzie Armitstead, and there is a very large and active cycling club.
The town itself still has quite a but of bunting left in place after this year's Tour de Yorkshire stage start, and there are numerous artworks around the town connected with cycling. One of my favourites was this stone carving called 'Peleton'. It was carved by a local artist in 2014 to commemorate the Tour de France passing through Otley.
Thank you all for your comments and fav, they are appreciated.
Otley is an attractive market town, and has some lovely architecture, so I think a further visit is called for, when the weather is a little kinder.
