Leeds City Museum is typical of many municipal museums, with a mixture of different types of exhibit. My favourite section was the selection of Roman exhibits, and other exhibits about Rome.
I've chosen this bust of the Emperor Nero to share with you. It was one of four on display there and was once part of a much larger set. It is Italian and was created in the 18th century.
Busts of famous people from ancient Greece and Rome were often placed in libraries in the 1700s and 1800s, usually above the bookcases. Here they stand on the tops of the display cases as a reminder of the original function of the room where they were displayed, which was once the Reading Room of the Leeds Institute.
Thank you for your comments and fav, they are appreciated.
