Women of Steel by fishers

Women of Steel

A recent addition to the street scene in Sheffield is this sculpture commemorating the work of women in the steel industry of South Yorkshire during two world wars.

I'm especially pleased to get some shots of this sculpture since my mum was one of those women of steel during the second world war. She worked in a rolling mill at Rotherham, and it was while working there that she met my dad.

@777margo Thank you for your comment. Ian's mum is looking forward to seeing his pictures of the statue, at 91 she is now unable to leave the house for an expedition to see them, Katharine

@pyrrhula Thank you Ferry. I feel this tribute statue is long overdue, but here at last. I think the role of women during the war is finally being acknowledged. Katharine
