I included a shot a while ago of the cycle routes in Wetherby ( http://365project.org/fishers/365/2016-07-29 ). There are other routes too, both east and west of the town giving links to other local communities. This shot is taken on Route 66 of the national cycle network, to the east of Wetherby. This is the first section of a long term plan to create a route through to York.
Thorp Arch was my starting point on this route, and followed an exploration of the village of Thorp Arch and the neighbouring town of Boston Spa.
Much of this former railway route is now a tree lined arch with occasional glimpses of the surrounding countryside. Not a very long route, but a very enjoyable walk. At the time of my visit there were very few others using the route, so it was a quiet peaceful excursion.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, I am grateful for them all.
Much effort has been put into making what was once a long relatively straight route more interesting by adding twists and turns in the surface laid down for cyclists. Use of the route is a mixture of walkers and cyclists - probably around half of each on the day of my walk. It is now hard to imagine that this was once a double track railway.
