I'm afraid I can't be moved away from St Mary's Church, Beverley, yet. I just had to share this amazing ceiling with you. Found above the chancel of the church, this shot only shows about 40% of the ceiling. The whole ceiling illustrates the kings of England, from the 7th century to Henry VI who was king in 1445 when this ceiling was built. Later restoration in 1939 added a panel showing George VI who was king at the time of the restoration.
Other parts of the church have impressive ceilings too - several are blue with stars, and the ceiling above the north transept is actually a map of the constellations of the northern hemisphere.
TYF this photo. Was/am so impressed that I've just been looking at their web site. I can easily understand your joy and wonder of it and joyfully await more pix etc. Pleased that you don't love too far from it. Make hay!
At first I was unsure of what I was looking at with some of the portraits looking up and others down. They I understood when I read your story. A beautiful capture and impressive ceiling. Great clear pictures, too.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, which put this shot on the popular page.
I fiind this ceiling one of the most attractive church ceilings that I've ever seen - I'm glad that you all appreciate it too.

Thank you Ivan!
