The difference between the wind in the gardens on the cliff top, and down here close to the beach. Here it was much less windy and warm enough to sit and watch the world go by.
Amazing how vivid the blue of the sea was - it looks a bit false, but it was genuinely that deep blue.
Filey was a small village until the 18th century when visitors from Scarborough arrived seeking the peace and quiet that Filey then offered. The development of the area around the Crescent, followed by the opening of a railway station in 1846 led to growth of the holiday industry, although Filey has always been a much quieter resort than it's neighbours Bridlington and Filey, and is still very popular with older holidaymakers.
This looks like a very pretty and quiet place for a peaceful and relaxing break. Actually it is not my type of holiday but my son and son-in-law would both love to spend some time with their families.
It's amazing how many UK holiday resorts have very similar railings! The promenade at Peel is a good example. Some years ago we were eating ice cream on Peel promenade when we met Norman Wisdom, so somewhere in the archive I have a shot of Lucy talking to him.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I'm looking forward to showing my mum the shots of Filey - she and my dad regularly took holidays at Filey as they got older.
