Rock Garden, Clifton Park, Rotherham by fishers

Rock Garden, Clifton Park, Rotherham

I've been away for a few days visiting my mum. While in South Yorkshire I visited Clifton Park in Rotherham. I rather liked this view of the rock garden there.

The park was originally the land belonging to a grand house called Clifton House, which belonged to Joshua Walker, owner of a local iron and steel works. It was sold to the local council in 1891 and work began to convert the house to a museum and the land to a public park. Many changes have taken place over the years since, including the creation of this rock garden in 1951.

In recent years much work has been carried out to restore the park to it's former glory following many years of decline.

Thank you all for your comments and fav, they are very much appreciated.

Clifton Park is a fascinating place to explore, and so is the museum. I couldn't resist buying a book about the history of the park. Not only am I learning a lot about the history, but there are also a number of events recorded that I remember from my childhood, so it's a fascinating read.
