These houses are the only remaining pre 19th century almshouses in Chester, and were built around 1650. They form an attractive feature to view from the city walls.
By the early 1960’s the almshouses were in a dilapidated state and were in danger of collapse. They were rescued from collapse by the city council in 1968-9 after a campaign by the Chester Civic Trust and the Chester Archaeological Society, and the houses were restored.
And by the way there are only six of the original nine houses left.
Oh that was a blast from the past. We had a holiday nearby and daughter 2 still has her bear from the Teddy shop and he's called Chester!! Lovely city.

A bit more research since I posted this reveals that the three lost houses were the victims of changes made in this area around 1850.
