Painted Lady by fishers

Painted Lady

On a field track just ahead of me I spotted this Painted Lady, so who could resist taking a photo.

This butterfly species is a migrant to the UK and, in some years, the migration numbers can be spectacular. Judging by the number of photos of these posted her on 365, and my own unscientific observations, this could be a good year to see a lot of them. They originate from the desert fringes of North Africa and the Middle East. It's incredible to imagine such a delicate creature travelling such huge distances.

What delicate shades that provide the appropriate camouflage/backdrop and thus provide a level of safety.
