The information board beside the Japanese Garden in Avenham Park Preston describes it's origin as follows: "The fashion for rock gardens and Japanese style gardens began at the end of the Victorian era with wealthy Britons returning from travels in the Far East and developing their own versions of the gardens they had seen on their travels. This trend continued all over Britain throughout the early part of the 20th century with Preston’s Rock Garden being opened in 1936 by Councillor James Harrison, Mayor of Preston."
This area of the park was originally a duck pond before it was remodelled. The remodelling included the use of 400 tonnes of rock and the installation of pumping equipment to supply water to artificial waterfalls.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.
The Japanese Garden in Preston is impressive. The variety of views and flowers is enormous, and I could probably continue posting photos for weeks, but I'm sure you would get bored!
