The UK heatwave has come to an end, with rain showers yesterday and almost continuous rain today, and a temperature here in York of less than 20 degrees C. So, today's photo was taken through the lounge window into our garden and shows a Queen Elizabeth rose.
These roses were a favourite of my dad, and he had quite a few in his garden. These in our garden were grown from cuttings of his roses.
This was the first successful grandiflora rose, a cross with clusters of flowers like a floribunda and large blooms like a hybrid tea. It was launched in 1954 by the rose breeder Lammerts, to mark the Queen's Coronation in 1953, and it was a brilliant success. For some of us it is still popular today.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
Sorry for my absence for the last couple of days. I suffered a bit after the heat of last week and the bad effect it had on my asthma, so it's a few days since I got out to take photos.
