...and I found this rather interesting interpretation of the Yorkshire flag in the centre of York. The emblem of Yorkshire is the white rose and on a flag it is displayed on a blue background. Here the white rose is made up of a large number of white roses beginning to bloom.
Yorkshire Day is celebrated on 1 August to promote the historic English county of Yorkshire. It was celebrated in 1975, by the Yorkshire Ridings Society, initially in Beverley, as "a protest movement against the local government re-organisation of 1974" and as part of which some areas which had been in Yorkshire became part of other authorities. It has grow to be a celebration of Yorkshire culture with events taking place throughout the old county area.
When I first saw this on my phone I thought someone had been clever with sushi... but now I see it proper on my laptop .. Thanks for sharing I am of Yorkshire decent..
Gorgeous shot and flower arrangement to make up this historic flag of York. When I was much younger I was very much intrigued by the Wars of the Roses and especially by King Richard III. Though my interest has wained I still get a kick when I see a post like this. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated!
Although the tradition of celebrating Yorkshire day might be relatively recent, it has become a popular event, with many interesting and unusual things taking place.
@julzmaioro Right - it's amazing how far and wide people from Yorkshire have travelled and settled. Me? - I'm more than happy where I am. I moved 40 miles from Rotherham before settling in York!
