Grimsby, in north Lincolnshire, is the home of a Fishing Heritage Centre, with a well designed museum telling the story of fish from sea to plate. In the dock alongside the museum is a typical Grimsby side load trawler, the 'Ross Tiger', and a guided tour of the trawler is included as part of the admission to the museum.
This shot shows the bridge of the trawler, from where the ships captain controls the work of the vessel.
There were once around 700 similar fishing vessels working from Grimsby, though there are now very few left, although the town is still an important centre for fish processing.
Thank you all for your generous comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
This must have been a very hard life. I was amazed just how cramped conditions were on this vessel, and hearing the stories of life on a trawler gave me great respect for those who worked on them. More details of the work involved are included with the next photo.
Startet on the Kw 53. (1954) Only a few left to day also.
