This shot was taken in a corner of the railway museum in York where various exhibits concerned with high speed railways are on display.
On the right a vehicle from one of the early Japanese Shinkansen trains, the first regular services in the world to be scheduled for speeds of 125 mph. It's hard to believe that these trains are over 50 years old.
On the left a section of channel tunnel and a mock-up of the front of one of the early channel tunnel trains, based on French TGV technology and designed for regular speeds of 187 mph.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I find it amazing that what I still think of as modern technology is now a museum exhibit. Non of the original Japanese Shinkansen trains are in service, and recently some of the original channel tunnel trains have been replaced by new trains.
