Wildflower gardens suddenly seem to have become popular. There was much publicity in the local media earlier in the year publicising a project in Rotherham where 8 miles of dual carriageway have had wild flowers planted in the central reservations.
More recently there has been a proposal to seed the banks upon which York city walls are built with wild flowers. Many of the banks already have daffodils planted which give a lovely display in early spring. Wildflower planting would give a display of colour throughout the summer.
In this shot, on a smaller scale, this is a border in Homestead Park that has been seeded with wildflowers for the first time this year. I think it provides a really cheerful display.
Yes, it's a lovely display. I wonder where we'll be in a few years now that lots of weeds are being sown in common ground areas! Gardeners will be going mad! 😀
