York University was bult in the grounds of what was Heslington Hall, and many of the residences are built around a large lake.
Here, one of the early residences, part of Derwent College, is reflected in the lake.
Many of the early residences were built of concrete, and in recent years some of these have been replaced by newer, larger residences, but in the area closest to Heslington Hall, the original concrete buildings survive.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I remember visiting the University in the early 1970s, when many of the concrete buildings were quite new, and the vegetation wasn't as prolific as now. The growth of trees and other plants has softened the harshness of the concrete buildings and made the grounds a lovely place for a walk.
