Another Moorsbus trip and a nice moorland walk in beautiful autumn sunshine, on a day that wasn't too hot here in the heart of the North York Moors. The track on the left of this shot is actually the trackbed of the disused Rosedale Railway, abandoned around 90 years ago with the decline of the local ironstone mines.
The bench on the right is a memorial to the mining era. There is an inscription along the seat edge on both sides, and the stone at the far end has carvings of the mining industry on the side that you can't see here.
This makes an excellent place to enjoy a break during a walk along the old railway route and it has super views to the right into Rosedale.
The inscription on the bench reads:
'In the dark, working hard, loading up the wooden cart,
Work-shift over, in the sun, on the hill, having fun.'

The heather moorland is a unique landscape. It can appear bleak and forbidding, but it is also a place of great beauty. For me it is truly a place where I feel at peace.
@stevepam No toilets here I'm afraid - it's about a half hour walk and involves a steep descent to the nearest - but there are the occasional trees or dry stone walls for emergency use!
great leading line
The country side looks majestic indeed
