OK, I'm indulging myself a little now, with another shot from the North York Moors Railway autumn steam gala, and this time a visitor from Didcot Railway Centre, King class locomotive 6023 'King Edward II'.
'King Edward II' was built at GWR's Swindon Works, being completed in June 1930 and was one of 30 locomotives of this design. For most of its working life it was based in south-western England, working express passenger trains to and from Devon to London. It was taken out of use in June 1962, and languished in a scrapyard at Barry in South Wales for many years. Bought for preservation in 1985, it took until 2011 for restoration to be completed. It's blue colour scheme was that for express passenger locomotives when the railways of Britain were nationalised in 1948.
As you can see, the weather wasn't great - rain had begun to fall, so this shot was taken from the shelter below Pickering station roof!
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.
Although weather conditions were rather dismal when I took this shot, I was very happy with the result.
