Autumn Steam Gala - 3 by fishers

Autumn Steam Gala - 3

Still at the North York Moors Railway autumn steam gala, and this time a visitor from the Great Central Railway.

GWR Modified Hall class 4-6-0 No.6990 'Witherslack Hall' was built and brought into service in 1948, just after the railways were nationalised. It spent much of it's life working from Old Oak Common depot in London on Great Western services to the south-west. It was withdrawn from service in December 1965 and arrived at Woodham’s scrapyard at Barry in February, 1966. It languished there until 1975 when it was bought for restoration and preservation. In recent years it has worked on the Great Central Railway.

At the time this shot was taken the rain had stopped and conditions were much brighter, so it is rather crisper and sharper than yesterday's shot.

Thank you for all your comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.

Although it is nice to see these Great Western engines, they are rather out of place on a railway in the north east.
