Yet more of the North York Moors Railway autumn steam gala, but this time showing two locomotives normally based at this railway.
Both locomotives were built for the North Eastern Railway for use on freight trains. The front locomotive, NER Class T2 2238 was one of a class of 120 built between 1913 and 1921, and it survived in use until the mid 1960s, when it was sold to the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group for use on this railway. It has just returned to service after a major overhaul.
The rear locomotive is a NER Class P3. Most of these were built between 1906 & 1909, though there were smaller batches built later. It survived in use until the mid 1960s, when it was sold to the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group for use on this railway. It has just returned to service after a major overhaul.
Someone is stood on the tender of the rear locomotive, feeding water from the water crane into the tender water tank.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.
That's probably enough steam locomotives for now - the next due to work through York isn't until November, so for those of you not so interested in steam locomotives, you have a little break from them now!
