Our Moorsbus carried us north to the Moors Centre at Danby in Eskdale, where we had lunch and a short walk.
Eskdale is a valley running west to east from Westerdale on the North York Moors to Whitby on the east coast of England. Formed during the last major ice age, it has a classic U-shaped valley formation caused by the action of glaciers carving away the rock. Eskdale is named after the River Esk which in Celtic means water or stream.
This shot is taken from the lane between the Moors Centre and Danby Village, and shows farmland typical of the area, rising towards heather moorland (to right of the shot).
Thank you for all your lovely comments and favs, which put this shot on the Popular Page.
It didn't strike me until today how many landscape features are hidden in this shot. The River Esk forms a large meander in the foreground, and beyond that the Esk Valley Railway runs. Both are partly hidden by the trees. A farm (top left) is built around the remains of Danby Castle, a castle with royal connections.
Casablanca, I'm not surprised your husband and son got simular landscape shots to this, since the Coast to Coast walk passed about 5 miles south of this viewpoint.
